The simpler the better.
Ideally, the logo of a company should be able to replace the name so that it is recognizable even when used on it’s own, without the company name. Simple logos are more easily remembered than complex ones.

Scalability

A logo should be recognizable whether in a very large size or a very small size. This is easier to achieve if the logo is simple.

Durability

A logo should be able to retain its shape when printed in gray scale or one color (monochrome). It should be recognizable in black and white, as well as in full color when used on printed material, websites or on any other medium.

Uniqueness

Your business will not stand out if your logo looks like the hundreds of similar logos out there. Look for that small tweak that will make people look twice at your logo.

Sensibility

The logo should fit well in the context of where it is supposed to be used.
For example, if a shoe company needs a logo containing a picture of a shoe, it may look ok when painted on a shopfront. However, it will not be sensible for a shoe to be printed on the shoes made by that company.
